John Grant + Meilyr Jones

Donald Gordon Theatre
Acclaimed singer-songwriter John Grant has earned a reputation as one of the most expressive voices of our time.

Disarmingly honest, profound and funny, Grant’s journey has been remarkable – from a time when he feared he’d never make music again to sell-out shows, accolades and collaborations with Sinead O’Connor, Goldfrapp and Elton John, as well as a Best International Male Solo Artist nomination at the 2014 Brit Awards. Following the recent release of his third solo album, Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, Grant combined his sumptuous ballads with fizzing electronic pop songs in this genuinely special performance.

Opening for Grant, Aberystwyth-born Meilyr Jones joined Festival of Voice as part of a nationwide tour in support of his much-anticipated debut album 2013. A former member of Welsh band Race Horses, Jones is one of this year’s brightest prospects. Having previously toured with both Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip’s Neon Neon, as well as working with acts such as Stealing Sheep and Euros Childs, his latest album is built upon a rich array of influences and musical textures, with flushes of baroque, of recorder and harpsichord, Japanese accordion, snatches of karaoke and organ recordings combined to create lush walls of sound. Winner of the 2016 Welsh Music Prize.
