The Hot Sardines
Take a blustery brass front line, add a stride piano virtuoso and a frontwoman with the attitude of a ’30s cabaret diva and you have The Hot Sardines. And we haven’t even mentioned the tap dancer!
Described by Forbes Magazine as “one of the best jazz bands in New York today”, The Hot Sardines have a distinctive recipe for making musical magic. Steeped in hazy sun-soaked jazz and ecstatic gypsy swing – a perfect marriage of between-the-wars Paris and early New Orleans jazz – their vibrant performances bridge generations and captivate audiences with the history-defining jazz of the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s.
The UK got its first glimpse of The Hot Sardines at 2014’s EFG London Jazz Festival with two sold-out shows which had audiences dancing in the aisles. Since then, they’ve featured on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show and joined the Festival of Voice line-up as part of a UK-wide tour bringing New York gypsy swing to venues all over the country.
