Joe Boyd & Olivia Chaney
Record producer Joe Boyd and singer Olivia Chaney joined forces at Festival of Voice for an evening of stories and music.
Joe Boyd’s list of producer credits goes back to Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band. Later, he travelled the world for his legendary Hannibal label – to Mali, Cuba, Brazil and Bulgaria – in search of talent and produced the likes of REM, Maria Muldaur and Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
After publishing his memoir, White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s, Boyd asked Olivia Chaney to sing at an event in London – she dazzled him and the audience, and went on to sign for the legendary Nonesuch label, who have just released her album The Longest River, and so we have invited them to join forces again in Cardiff for Festival of Voice.
Boyd’s anecdotes and readings from White Bicycles were interspersed with Chaney’s affectionate take on songs by Nick Drake, Sandy Denny and others Boyd has worked with.
