A woman is on the phone to her lover. He doesn’t want to be with her anymore. She is approaching breaking point. She thinks she’s alone but she’s not. We, the audience, are in her apartment. We witness her life unravelling.

La Voix Humaine took place at an apartment in Penarth, which is just outside Cardiff. WNO’s Artistic Director David Pountney took a 20th century opera classic and created a unique and visceral theatre experience especially for Festival of Voice. This was opera up-close, intimate and unrestrained.

Sung live with recorded piano accompaniment.
