Orphy Robinson Presents Van Morrison's Astral Weeks with Zara McFarlane
Orphy Robinson presents his exclusive Jazz and Soul interpretation of Van Morrison’s 1968 masterpiece ‘Astral Weeks’ in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of its release. With its magical combination of jazz, folk and soul influences this album is widely regarded as one of the most influential recordings of 20th century music.
UK vibes player and multi-Instrumentalist Orphy Robinson brings together some of the UK’s top jazz players to reinterpret the transcendental arrangements of ‘Astral Weeks’. Building on his award-winning tribute to Bobby Hutcherson and his role as Musical Director/Producer for Carleen Anderson’s ‘Cage Street Memorial’ Album and Tour, this is his most ambitious project yet.
Joining Orphy is Mobo winner singer-songwriter, Zara McFarlane. Refreshingly enchanting and cited as one of the UK’s foremost Black British Jazz Vocalist, Zara has three critically acclaimed albums to her name, inhabiting an unusual musical landscape, fearlessly exploring original material and reworking well known classics from the worlds of Jazz and Jamaican music. Through infectious rhythms and socio-conscious lyrics, Zara explores musical possibilities of British-Jamaican identity.
